First: You're Not Alone.

Millions of Americans have unfiled tax returns. Life happens, a divorce, a job loss, a family illness, a business that fell apart, a year that just got away from you. Then another year passes. And another. Eventually the whole thing feels too big to face.

Here's the truth: in most cases, the situation is more fixable than it feels. Many back filers actually end up receiving refunds. And even when there's a balance owed, there are real paths to resolution.

Who We Help

Situations We See
Every Week.

One or Two Missed Years

You meant to file, but the year got hectic. Maybe you thought you'd owe and put it off. Now you want to catch up before it becomes a bigger problem.

Multiple Years Behind

Three, five, ten years unfiled. You've probably been carrying this for a long time. We take the whole picture, sort it into a manageable plan, and file everything in the right order.

Received an IRS Notice

CP59, CP80, or another notice about missing returns. The IRS is reaching out. Don't ignore it, but don't panic either. We'll help you respond correctly and get compliant.

Need Returns for a Reason

Buying a house, applying for a loan, going through immigration, sponsoring a family member, you need clean tax records fast. We prioritize the years you need most.

Why It Matters

The Cost of Waiting.

Refunds Expire

The IRS gives you three years to claim a refund. After that, the money is gone forever. Many back filers are owed money they'll never see if they wait too long.

Penalties Grow

Failure-to-file penalties compound monthly. The longer you wait, the more you owe, even before any tax. Getting current stops the bleeding.

IRS Files For You

If you don't file, the IRS eventually files a Substitute for Return using worst-case assumptions, no deductions, no credits, filed as single. It's almost always higher than what you actually owe.

Our Process

A Clear Path
Back to Compliance.

One step at a time. We'll tell you what we need, in what order, and what to expect at every stage.

1

Free Consultation & Assessment

We start with a phone or video call to understand your situation. Which years are missing? Have you received IRS notices? Do you have income records? No judgment, just information gathering.

2

IRS Transcript Pull

We request wage and income transcripts from the IRS on your behalf. This shows us every W-2 and 1099 filed under your Social Security Number, even for years you can't remember or find documents for. It's typically the fastest way to reconstruct missing years.

3

Written Scope & Plan

Before we do any preparation work, you'll get a clear written scope: which years we'll file, in what order, what it will cost, and how long it will take. No surprises. You decide whether to move forward.

4

Preparation in the Right Order

Back returns need to be filed in a specific order, usually oldest to newest, so credits and carryovers apply correctly. We prepare each year, review with you, and file them systematically.

5

Handoff to Resolution (If Needed)

If the filings reveal balances owed that require negotiation, like an Offer in Compromise, installment agreement, or penalty abatement, we coordinate with our affiliated practice RushTax Resolution to handle the resolution work.

Transparent Pricing

Per-Year Flat Fees.
No Hourly Surprises.

Back filing pricing is quoted per year, per return, based on complexity. You'll receive a full written scope and price before any work begins. If you need multiple years, we structure the engagement so you can spread the work over time if needed.

Consultations are free. No commitment until you accept the scope.

Common Questions

You're Probably
Wondering.

Will I go to jail for not filing? +

Almost certainly not. Criminal tax charges are extremely rare and typically reserved for cases of intentional fraud or evasion, not for people who simply fell behind. The IRS prefers compliance over prosecution. Coming forward voluntarily and filing your back returns is the exact right move.

What if I don't have any of my old tax documents? +

Very common, and very fixable. We can pull wage and income transcripts directly from the IRS, which shows every W-2, 1099, and other income document filed under your Social Security Number for the past ten years. For self-employed income, we can reconstruct records from bank statements. Missing records is not a barrier.

How many years back do I need to file? +

The IRS generally requires the past six years to be considered "in compliance", even if you've missed more. For refund purposes, the IRS only allows refunds on returns filed within three years of the original due date. We'll assess your situation during the consultation and recommend the right number of years for your specific case.

What if I actually get refunds when I file? +

It happens more often than people expect, especially for W-2 employees who had taxes withheld throughout the year. The three-year statute of limitations for refund claims means refunds on returns older than three years are lost forever, which is one big reason not to keep waiting.

What if I owe money and can't pay? +

The IRS has multiple resolution programs for taxpayers who can't pay in full: installment agreements, Offers in Compromise, currently-not-collectible status, and penalty abatement. Our affiliated practice RushTax Resolution, staffed by tax attorneys, handles these negotiations. Filing first is always the right first step; resolution comes next.

How long will the whole process take? +

Depends on how many years and how complete your records are. Simple one- or two-year catchups can often be filed within a few weeks. Multi-year cases with reconstruction usually take 30–90 days end-to-end. Once we assess your situation, we'll give you a clear timeline.
